Process
Having received a copy of the prospectus package, parents are invited to the next Open Morning. Following registration an appointment is made for the parents to meet the Head Teacher.
Pupils join the school in Nursery or Kindergarten. Entry into other year groups is dependent on availability of places. Before a child is accepted into the school certain basic criteria need to be met and these vary according to the age of entry. These criteria will be discussed with you before your child is assessed and a confidential report will be sought from the child’s previous setting or school.
On registering a child a non-refundable fee of £50 is required. In the Spring term before the child is due to start school, parents will be offered a firm place and a £500 deposit is required to secure this place. This deposit is only refunded when the child leaves, either at the end of Year 2 or Year 6. Once the deposit is received the parents are bound by the rules and policies of the school with regard to terms of notice, i.e. a full term’s notice must be given in writing by the first day of term. Families joining the school in September must give notice by 1st April, preceding the September of entry, if their intention changes.
The parents and child/children attend an Induction afternoon in the Summer term prior to entry in September into either the Pre-school or Reception classes.
The youngest children enter WGS at the beginning of the term in which they are 3 and may attend school three/five mornings in this term. Monday afternoon school is optional. In the Summer term it is anticipated that all children attend the Nursery class for five mornings and Monday afternoon in preparation for the Kindergarten class.
The Admissions Register contains the name and sex of the child, date of birth, name and address of the child’s previous school (if applicable), home address, emergency contact telephone number, name of parent/guardian, unique admissions number, date of admission, date of leaving with the name and address of the next school.
If you are seeking entry for your child into Reception during the current academic year, or into Year 1 or Year 2 at any time, an assessment morning will take place. A fee of £100 will be levied in advance of the assessment which will be credited against the first term’s fees on joining the school. Should your child not be offered a place following the assessment, the fee will be returned to the parents.
For every child to reach their full potential, it may sometimes be necessary to offer additional support in order to remove barriers to learning and further achievement. This is done with our Achievement Support Officer.
If after careful consideration we feel that a child is not responding to a variety of carefully planned sanctions to stop anti-social behaviour, is a danger to him/herself or/and to other children, is preventing others from behaving appropriately within the ethos and culture of our school and interviews with parents prove negative, we will then inform the parents that they must remove the child from school with immediate effect. There will be no refund of fees and all unpaid fees will need to be paid.
