Speaking & Listening

At Weston Green we want all children to have an equal right to be listened to and valued.

From pre-school into main school children are encouraged to listen to each other and to share their thoughts and ideas and learn from one another.

In pre-school our practitioners implement many strategies to establish good listening skills as we believe these are the key to all further acquisition of knowledge. Children enjoy carpet time, listen carefully and take turns. This delightful process gives children opportunities to exchange ideas and extend and develop their vocabulary and helps their teachers.

In the main school they are encouraged to talk about their ideas and their feelings.

Weston Green pupils have good speaking and listening skills in class, teachers promote clear diction and pronunciation; pupils are confident in presenting information at class assembly and engage in dialogue sensibly with visitors to our school.
