A new start

Posted on: 18 Sep 2015 by Weston Green School

The anticipation, the wait, the nerves, the preparation done – now, time for action! No, not the Rugby World Cup but the return of the children!

That’s how it felt when the gates opened on that first day, when somehow it’s all ‘real’. How good it has been to hear the school is buzzing with the sound of children again: the purposeful ‘hum’ of the older children as they focus on their tasks, the laughter of year 2 children revelling in their maths game, the exuberance of the y3 children racing around the playground, the pure joy of the Early Years children exploring the site … and so many more sights and sounds.

As we move into the year, I am delighted to welcome 3 new teachers to the team: Mrs White (y2), Mr Bashford (y4) and Mrs Hill (Music). They are already making their impact and settling in superbly. The children are also been finding their feet quickly in their new year groups and I have been especially pleased with the way the new children have settled in. As I tend to do, I have been out and about, watching lessons and talking to children and seeing their books – and what a privilege it has been. It has been a super start to what promises to be another wonderful year of learning, progress, personal development, high achievement and fun.

This is a vitally important year in the life of Weston Green as we look to add the building which will make the school site complete. As I said at ‘Meet the Teacher’, it is only a building and what goes on there is more important than how it looks … but what great opportunities it offers.

We are in an exciting place and I am looking forward to the year unfolding, delighting us as it does so.
