Endings and beginnings

Posted on: 29 Jun 2016 by Weston Green School

This week, as part of ‘Moving Up Afternoon’, we welcomed the new pupils joining the school in September. The school was again a-buzz with excitement and anticipation at all that lies ahead. With the building works due to begin in just two weeks’ time, there is indeed plenty to get excited about.

Along with the new pupils, we welcomed the new teachers: Mrs Moran (y3) and Mrs Colliver (y1) as well as Mrs Summers (Science). They brought their own brand of magic and it was lovely to wander round and see children settling, giggling, talking and listening as the new teams for 2016-17 began to overcome initial nerves and spend time together.

It is an odd sensation as we pause for a day between school years. As we look ahead, we should not forget this last fortnight which has been as busy as ever, this being no strange experience to WGS pupils and parents. We have had Parents Evenings, sports days practice, French Day, the ESB exams in Year 4, House matches (yet again with Arbrook coming to the fore), the Summer Ball (what a superb event!) and we are about to launch into Sports Day itself, trips out and the Summer Fair.

As I write at the end of Monday, we have a moment ‘between the lines’ to reflect on the many different aspects of school life we experience together as a community and to peek into the future and see what might lie ahead. At the meeting of the years, it is good time to be thankful for all we have and be excited about all that is yet to be.
