Quo vadis?

"Where are you going?"

Terry Pratchett, in ‘I shall Wear Midnight’, says: “If you do not know where you come from, then you don't know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you're going. And if you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.”

It is a privilege to work alongside colleagues who have such excellent ideas about how to develop the school and the energy to deliver on that incisive thinking. We have already begun to sketch not only the next year but also the time through to 2018, with the picture being gently becoming clearer as we ‘paint’ more month by month; indeed we have sketched to 2020, albeit in a less defined manner presently.

To help colour each part of the picture, visiting other schools and seeing how they operate is, I would argue, essential if we are to question effectively our own methodology and practice and so develop the next stage wisely.

This coming week, I shall be visiting another Bellevue school to see how they do things and to help them in their thinking about their own development. However, whilst there observing, talking and listening, I shall be always asking myself the question: "What can we do better at Weston Green, given what I’m seeing here?"

I have no doubt I shall come away with several ideas to share with the leadership team as we look to fully colour the present and further define the future. We know where we have come from, we know where we are and we know where we are heading - and brushstroke by brushstroke, we shall get there.
