We will remember them

Posted on: 11 Nov 2014 by Weston Green School

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, 100 years after the start of the First World War and 70 years after D-Day, the nation was still and gave thanks for those who died that we might live in freedom.

It can be hard for children to understand the importance of such a moment and yet …

On Friday 7th November, Year 4 led a Remembrance Assembly. It was an extraordinarily moving occasion. The children delivered the assembly with such dignity and poise, it was yet another time when one had to remind oneself how young they are. Lines were spoken with clarity and meaning; hymns were sung with energy and silence was kept with a deep respect.

For those who sacrificed everything, giving their today for our tomorrow, one could sense a gentle nod of approval from above as they were indeed remembered.
