Football Stars open new sports pitch

Sky Sports Commentators Martin Tyler and Tony Gale have officially opened the new sports pitch at Weston Green School, with the help of former professional footballer and current Manager of Hayes & Yeading United, Phil Babb.

To mark the occasion, children aged from 3-11, from Kindergarten to Year 6 also enjoyed training sessions on the new all-weather sports pitch, with Hampton and Richmond FC players and coaches.

The afternoon culminated in an official opening, with the ribbon cut by special guest Martin Tyler.

Parents and other invited guests at the opening also enjoyed tea and cake to celebrate the occasion.

Mr Mike Harrison, Headteacher, said “It is a great thrill and privilege to welcome former professionals to the school as they inspire the children to know that getting to the top is possible. The expertise of these high-class players here today and the new astro will help the children develop their skills and have a most memorable day which I hope inspires them for many months to come. We are committed to delivering the best and today certainly has done that.”

Mr Alan Dowson, Specialist Games Teacher and Manager of Hampton and Richmond Football Club, said “It has been fantastic to see our pupils at Weston Green enjoying the new pitch and having the opportunity to learn new skills from the Hampton and Richmond FC coaches. We are all very excited about using these great new facilities, to extend our on-site Sports provision at the school. Thank you to Martin, Tony and Phil and to the Club coaches and players, who made today such a success.”
