Headteacher’s Account of Weston Green’s Learning Review

Headteacher’s Account of Weston Green’s Learning Review

Weston Green School completed its annual Learning Review in January. The review focused on the academics and quality of teaching and learning, however one additional thing the review noticed was that the pastoral care and classroom behaviour are unanimously viewed as excellent by teachers, parents and pupils alike. Those leading the review found Weston Green School to be a happy, cheerful and purposeful school with a lot to be proud about despite the omnipresent pressures of the 11+ exams.

The level of challenge in terms of teaching and learning across the board was very good and pupils were set high expectations to drive forward their academic progress. The engagement within the classroom was exceptionally high (between the four reviewers we only saw one pupil having a quick day dream in all of the 27 lessons we visited). Given the cold temperatures, driving rain and time of year, the Weston Green community was relentlessly cheerful and those reviewing really were left with the impression that in this little corner of London there was a very good chance that one’s school day would be the happiest days of one’s life.

John Floyd - Headmaster at Bruern Abbey School

Bruern Abbey School joined the Bellevue group in May 2017 and is an independent day and boarding school for boys aged eight to thirteen with dyslexia or other specific learning difficulties. It is the only preparatory school in the country to have as its main purpose the preparation of boys with learning difficulties for Common Entrance and other entrance examinations to mainstream independent senior schools.
