ISA success

On a  cold and windy Friday in November, eight boys from Key Stage 2 left for the regional qualifiers of the ISA football tournament. The boys were eager to prove themselves against some of the much larger schools in the ISA, and qualify for the national tournament as they did two years before.

After an intense warm-up, the team played their first match, a close 1-1 draw; a good start, as we knew that a loss would mean we were in trouble. After a quick break, the second match was played and it was a convincing 4-0 win. The day was promising to look good.

The boys continued to play excellent football, winning four of the remaining fixtures and drawing one other. At the end of the group stage, Weston Green had topped the group with 17 points out of a possible 21, scoring 14 goals and even more impressively only conceding two.

In the semi-final, the boys were to play Westward School, whom they had played on the previous Monday. Unfortunately the boys did not start well and were 3-0 down before half time. But with some substitutions, they battled back to 3-2 with two minutes left. However, that was how it would finish despite their efforts. Nevertheless, they boys had qualified for finals day having reached the knock out stages. This was an incredible achievement for a school of our size, beating some that had over three times as many pupils.

Thanks must go to those parents who came to support, and for Mrs Taylor for providing some of the photos. I hope you found it as thrilling as we did!
