Swimathon Supports Sport Relief

Swimathon Supports Sport Relief

Several children from Weston Green took part in a Swimathon on Saturday 22 March in aid of Sport Relief. The young swimmers and (young) parents swam a total of 16.6 km and raised a staggering £735. Participants from WGS included: Brice, Jude, Clement , Xannie , Jackson, Jessica , Thomas, Lucy and Joseph.

Jessica, Brice and Clement completed their 66 lengths, each equalling 1650m, and Brice completed an additional two lengths to complete the 5000m team swim.

Xannie and Jude completed their 5000m team swim, each swimming 50 lengths equalling 1250m with two other non-WGS team members.

The junior team, Thomas, Lucy, Jackson and Joseph completed their 1500m team swim.

Thank you to Mr. Thevenon for organising the event, and thanks and congratulations to Mrs. Lee, Mrs. Ginn, and Mrs. Wise for their organisation and participation.

In addition to the Swimathon, Daniel in 1W ran the Sport Relief Mile at the Old Cranleigh Club on Sunday 23 March and raised £100. Daniel has been awarded a medal for his achievement which he is very, very proud of. Zac in RG also took part in this event by running the Sport Relief mile through the woods last weekend. He was presented with his medal by Mrs. Harvey in our Friday morning assembly.

The following children were also presented with awards, certificates, and medals during our Friday morning assembly:

Harrison in 1F won a Kellogg’s ASA Rainbow Swimming Award Scheme Certificate for swimming a distance of 10 metres. Harrison swims with Aquademy swimming team every weekend.

Sophia and Amelie in 2N achieved level 4 in gymnastics and received a certificate from ‘Flair Gymnastics’. Amelie also won a gold medal in a recent gymnastics competition !

Tanya in 1W recieved a certificate from the Associated Board Preparatory Test for Singing.

Freya in RM was awarded ‘Player of the Week’ whilst playing Hockey at Old Cranleighans a few weeks ago. Freya received a medal for her achievement.

James in RM was also awarded ‘Player of the week’ for playing Rugby Mini’s at Old Cranleighans Club. He received a trophy for good play and bravery.

Henry in 4D came third whilst playing Rugby at Old Cranleighans in the Effingham and Leatherhead RFC Tournament.
