Weston Green School offers Parent Workshop with Early Years Specialist

Posted on: 19 Nov 2014 by Weston Green School | Category: Early Years

Weston Green recently welcomed Early Years Specialist, Lena Engel to the school, to run a workshop for parents on the topic of “promoting children’s independence at home”.

Lena Engel is a freelance Early Years Specialist with a long career in teaching, as well as working with the Department for Education and as a part-time Ofsted Early Years Inspector.

Parents with children in Kindergarten and Reception were invited to the interactive workshop and were joined by other local families with children of pre-school age, as well as Early Years practitioners from local nurseries.

Weston Green School’s own Early Years team also benefited from the session, which demonstrated the way in which strong partnerships between home and school are crucial to children learning new skills.

The workshop also aimed to empower parents to feel confident in their role in preparing children for their transition to school.

Mrs Gardner whose daughter Evelyn attends Kindergarten, said: “I was pleasantly surprised at just how many useful and practical tips Lena presented during the course of the evening. It provided a very useful benchmark of where my daughter’s peer group are and certainly highlighted areas where we could be doing more, plus the relevant tools to do so.”

Mrs Jenny Reynolds, Head of Early Years at Weston Green, said: “We would like to extend our warmest thanks to Lena Engel, for such an engaging workshop. It was a wonderful opportunity to hear from a real expert in the field and to open up discussions between parents and teaching staff. It was great to also welcome practitioners from other Early Years settings into the school, to add to the expertise of the evening.”
