Year 1 take an investigatory walk

Year 1 take an investigatory walk

Activities at Weston Green School are designed to foster the individual interests of every child. Finding the balance between promoting independence and encouraging exploration takes careful consideration when planning, and our local walk this week has given the children the opportunity for this.

Year 1 planned the route for our journey, gave thoughtful consideration to questions they wanted to ask shop keepers and created a tally chart to collect meaningful data about Thames Ditton. The children visited shops on the high street that they had a personal interest in such as the gift shop, florists, greengrocers and cycling shop.

Nurturing pupils' curiosity meant that they were enthusiastic when bringing their learning back into the classroom and creating a leaflet about Thames Ditton. Year 1 have also demonstrated their ability to be creative ‘Spiders’ and thoughtful ‘Owls’ this week, when presenting their findings from the trip.
