A stella performance

Posted on: 12 Jun 2015 by Weston Green School | Category: Early Years, Key Stage 1, Kindergarten, Reception, Year 1

Many congratulations go to the cast of Stella the Starfish for finishing the last half term on a high note! The pupils in Year One, Reception and Kindergarten performed this magical, underwater adventure about a lost starfish and two children who help her to find her way back home. They are transported into the ocean by a magic shell and seek the advice of the colourful sea creatures, each type played by a different class or year group. None are able or willing to help, except for Sid the Shark, who reunites the trio with Stella's family.

The children brought the story to life through acting, singing and dancing with several pupils playing instruments. The one act musical featured a myriad of musical styles. Kindergarten performed a graceful modern dance, portraying magical seaweed; they danced in several formations and confidently executed the choreography. Two show stopping songs included Terry the Turtle and Clowns of the Sea which were performed by the Reception classes who sang and danced energetically in a traditional musical theatre manner. The girls in Year One portrayed the elegant Rainbow Fish in a beautiful, poised balletic number while the boys in Year One played the menacing but extremely charming sharks in a dance featuring soft shoe, kicks and jazz hands.

Every actor in Year One had a part of the story to tell or a speaking part with special mention  to Anna, Max, Sophie, Charlie and Jamie who played lead characters in the production and to Freya who danced the part of Stella in the opening sequence. On behalf of the staff at Weston Green- or "West End Green" as quoted by Mr Harrison, we would like to once again congratulate the cast of Stella the Starfish for all of their work which resulted in a spectacular performance. Bravo Bravissimo!!
