E-safety

Posted on: 29 Mar 2017 by Weston Green School | Category: Early Years, Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2

We have had a focus recently on e-safety across KS1 and KS2, with biennial training for everyone involved with the school incorporated into this.

Alan Mackenzie, an independent e-safety adviser with many years’ experience, firstly ran sessions for the children during an afternoon, speaking to them about how to stay safe when using the internet and finding out about the most popular games, sites and platforms.

He then ran a very useful session for staff after school, before finishing with an engaging and informative session for parents. We will now receive Alan’s half-termly e-safety newsletters which we will put on the website for parents to access. In a world where technology moves forward at such a pace, it is vital that we all keep as up to date as we can in order to support the children as they grow and learn.

We have also formed a new E-safety Committee, with two boys in Yr 5 currently training to become digital leaders who can then support and advise their peers. The staff on the committee are also completing some training and the committee will then work to ensure that e-safety is kept at the forefront of all our minds.
