First guest arrives to check in at the Bug Hotel

Posted on: 05 May 2015 by Weston Green School | Category: Key Stage 2, Year 5

On Friday 1st May the younger children at WGS, together with the School Council, helped to build a Bug Hotel to take pride of place in our new garden. In the spring sunshine they helped one of Elmbridge's Countryside Officers construct suitable habitats to encourage a range of bugs to visit our garden, and perhaps stay.

But as they were busy on the construction up in year 5, Jack was suprised to find that a beautiful moth had landed on his hand!  It was black and red, with striking patterned wings and certainly a very well turned-out guest for our new residence. Jack popped down to the Countryside Officer to ask for help identifying the moth, and returned to class to tell us all that it was a cinnibar moth. Jack left the moth near the hotel, and hopefully our cinnibar guest will soon be telling all his friends about his luxury accommodation on trip advisor!
