French day

Posted on: 29 Jun 2016 by Weston Green School | Category: Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2

A great Gallic day was enjoyed by all at Weston Green as we celebrated French day last week. The school was a sea of red, white and blue with the children and staff looking very chic in their Tricolore-themed clothes and with bunting, flags and posters a plenty. The day started with Key Stage 2 pupils have a quiet browse of their French quiz & puzzle booklets before our French assembly started. Each year group from Yr 3 upwards contributed enthusiastically and we saw how much progress is made as the pupils move up the school. Next stop was an exciting French theatre workshop in which a captivating French actor re-enacted two fairy tales in French with the help of some of our children. We watched, we listened, we participated, we laughed and in so doing the pupils picked up on a lot of new vocabulary. Time for 'la recreation' and we all enjoyed the French cafe in the playground; baguette with jam, pain au chocolat, fruit and chocolat chaud' The children had to ask for this in French and I must say they were very motivated! At lunchtime the children enjoyed a delicious boeuf bourgignon and tarte tatin and there were several French cheeses to taste too. A big thank you goes to Matt and his team for producing such a super French feast for us. The final event was Year 2's assembly which they performed especially for Year 1. They sang two songs and answered quiz questions brilliantly on all things French. Year 1 proved to be very knowledgeable too! Bravo to WGS French pupils who really entered into the spirit of our French day.
