Kindergarten at Forest School: Week 2

Posted on: 11 Mar 2016 by Weston Green School | Category: Forest School, Early Years, Kindergarten

Lots of excited children and adults arrived at Forest School on Thursday, eager to get started on the session ahead.

First, we went off in groups and helped each other to stick tape to the trees, to mark out our boundaries. We had a lot to talk about as we identified which trees were on the boundary, the size of their trunks and how much tape we needed to tie around each tree.

Next, we played our recall game of '1,2,3 where are you?' The children were very good at finding hiding places and they even found Sammy the Squirrel who was very happy to be found!

Sammy the Squirrel brought a friend along this week. Explorer Ted was very interested to find out what the children did at Forest School. This week, they told us about the fairies that live at our base camp and how a friendly Troll had stepped on the fairies houses by accident and scared them all away.

Sammy the Squirrel told us that there was a sign that the fairies might be returning home, as he had spotted fairy dust near the entrance by the old tree. He asked us if we could welcome the fairies home by making them new houses and 'Bog People' to guard the camp.

We set off on our mission and enjoyed working as a team.

Sammy the Squirrel thought that our fairy house was very impressive! The children thought about what materials would make a good shelter and used bark to prevent water from coming in.

“I think the fairies will need some water when they come home. They will be very thirsty, so I have made them a plate and cups to put the water in."

Some children made journey sticks as presents for the fairies return.

After our busy and eventful afternoon we sat down for a well-deserved rest and snack.

To conclude this week’s session the children were asked what they enjoyed at Forest School today:

“I enjoyed working with my friends”
“Hot Chocolate!”
“Making our magic bubble”
“Listening to the birds say hello”
“I loved making bog people, I hope they are all still here next week”
