Legal Eagles!

Posted on: 29 Apr 2016 by Weston Green School

As part of their PSHE studies on 'Rights and Responsibilities', Years 5 and 6 took part in a workshop to find out the workings of the British legal system.  At the beginning of the session they learned how a trial is conducted, the people involved and their rights as a British citizen. Then the children partook in a court role-play regarding a girl whose lunchbox had been stolen which they enjoyed thoroughly; however, they found deciding the verdict harder as it was such a responsibility! After much deliberating the verdict was ‘guilty’ and a sentence of ‘cleaning up the playground’ was passed to the defendant.  Huge thanks to Mrs Moylan-Jones for taking the time to organise such an insightful workshop and for bringing along her students to help answer all our questions.
