Sports Day 2017 - Rain stops play.....nearly!
After record temperatures the week before, Sports Day 2017 was hit hard by heavy rain fall. This wasn't going to stop the hearty WGS children (and staff) from KS1 & KS2 from showing their skills. The over head and underfoot conditions meant a change to the traditional format with the track events first. As always, the races were very competitive with all child running in 2 or 3 races. A very pleasing feature of the day was to see each and every child striving to do their best. No one gave up and even the odd flying shoe couldn't stop every child finishing their race! After an aborted attempt to start the fields event, the scores were totalled up and Ditton House won for the second year in a row.

At the presentation a new trophy was introduced which will pay an annual tribute to Mr Dowson who will be leaving WGS after 21 very happy years. The trophy will be awarded to the pupil the sports staff feel has progressed most significantly with their sport in the time at the school. This years winner was Jak who has made an enormous transformation to now become a "sporty boy" with huge potential. His progress has been a joy to watch and the transformation is the kind that has been achieved and promoted by Mr Dowson for each and every one of his 21 years; developing a love of sport with his fun and enthusiastic approach. Hampton and Richmond FC's gain is certainly WGS's loss. Thank you for everything Mr Dowson!
