Reception prepares for Year 1

Posted on: 12 Jul 2017 by Weston Green School

Reception children have been preparing for the long walk across the playground to ‘the BIG school!’  In circle time children have been discussing with their peers what they would like to learn or take part in when they progress to Year1.

Some quotes from the children:

Zac:  "I want to play lots and lots of football and do football club too."

Jack:  “I want to go on a beach trip.”

Gyan:   “I want to learn more about reading and writing.”

Rafe: "I want to do lots more Science experiments."

During the course of the year the Royal Readers from Year 1 have been coming into both Reception classes and reading a story of their choice.

Reception also have many opportunities to interact with the Year 1 chcildren at playtime; playing an odd game of football wiith the older boys is a real highlight of the week!

Children in Reception have had many opportunities to experience what life in Year 1 will be like in September. These include, going to the BIG library, investigation in the Science Lab and the Art room, and spending time in the Year 1 classrooms having discussions with Year 1 children.
