Run for cover!

Posted on: 02 Feb 2015 by Weston Green School | Category: Key Stage 2, Year 6

Year 6 were thrilled to embark upon their first trip this academic year and were particularly excited that it would be to the Imperial War Museum to support both their history and art studies.

Having had extensive renovations over the last couple of years, the museum overwhelmed the class- there were so many exhibits, artefacts and galleries to see alongside the sections of aircraft, armoured vehicles and hanging planes that greeted them on entry.

One area of interest that particularly stirred interest was within the ‘Truth and Memory’ gallery: a collection of art by WW1 artists. They not only sketched some of the paintings but discussed the story behind them, leading one child to quote, “It is incredibly emotional and really makes you think about what the soldiers were going through”.

The class left, not only thinking about what they had seen but with lots of ideas for their forthcoming VE Day projects.
