School Council update

This term the school council have decided upon the school charity for this year. But instead of selecting one, we now have FOUR! That’s right, four charities to raise funds for. Each one is different and a worthwhile cause, and two are ones we support on an ongoing basis. We have already collected stationery for the Rhema Partnership, based in India. That means we need to come up with fundraising ideas for the other three; Shooting Star Foundation, 52 Lives and READY.

52 Lives, is a charity set up by one of Weston Green’s parents, Jamie Thurston. 52 Lives aims to change someone's life every week of the year. It is based on the simple premise that people are good. And lots of good people working together have the power to change lives. Every week, 52 lives posts a story about someone in need of help on their website and social media, and thanks to thousands of kind supporters, they find that help and change a life.

READY raises money to help young people with disabilities play sport and take part in healthy activities for fun and fitess. They are run completely by volunteers. Over the years they’ve helped hundreds of children with grants for racing wheelchairs, basketball wheelchairs, blind cricket, ramps, prosthetics, seated skis, team kit, racing gloves, specialist hearing aids, gym equipment, swimming lessons, facilities and transport for kids, carers and even ponies.

The School Council is already making decisions about fundraising and other events for the children to take part in. Remember, if you have an idea, put it in your class suggestion box.
