The Leaning Tower of Weston!

Posted on: 19 Jun 2015 by Weston Green School | Category: Key Stage 2, Year 5, Year 6

After their wonderful French assembly this morning, Years 5 & 6 were put to task with a maths/DT/PSHE challenge!  They were given the task of using their maths, construction and teamwork skills to plan and create, not only the tallest tower, but one that would hold a small, light ball. If this was not a test in itself, they could only use newspaper, scissors and masking-tape. However, the task became even more complex as each group was given £200 to spend (in Monopoly money) and they had to budget for everything they used... down to the last bit of tape!  Although they encountered a few obstacles along the way, each group managed to produce a tower ….of sorts. Mr Harrison was the ultimate judge of the final test and the winning group, not only had the tallest tower, but it could also hold the ball!  The attached image shows their successful creation.
