You are here: Home » Early Years » Curriculum » Creative
We believe that creativity promotes discovery, openness and collaboration, and takes away the fear of getting things wrong. We consider this area of the curriculum to be one of the most important when children first join us as it facilitates and encourages taking part. This, in turn, helps to develop confidence in the child and equip them for other areas of school life.
Drama plays an important part in developing self-esteem and pupils are encouraged to take part in a variety of opportunities that arise. All pupils are also involved in class assemblies, concerts and a whole school production at the end of the academic year.
Pupils in Kindergarten and Reception have one session of Music a week in the hall, when they learn action songs and rhymes, as well as being introduced to a variety of un-tuned percussion instruments. They are encouraged to join in with confidence and to learn to take turns.
Early Years pupils also have a Harvest Celebration in October, perform a Nativity Play in the hall at Christmas, and take part in spring concerts and the school production at the end of the Summer Term.
Watch a short video of Kindergarten and Reception rehearsing for their spring concert, on the left hand side of this page.
Art is also a real strength at the school. Pupils explore visual elements and experience a wide range of materials in two and three dimensions, learning how to apply them using various techniques and processes.
