Key Stage 1

Years 1 & 2

In Key Stage 1 (KS1) pupils progress from the EYFS to engage in a more formalised style of learning and begin to explore subjects in greater depth, which involves subjects being taught discretely with cross curricular links. Over the past couple of years we have continued to develop our 'Thematic Curriculum' which is now embedded across the school. Learning in this way enables children to remain engaged and motivated, make clear links between subjects and to apply a range of skills across all areas of the curriculum.

The children in KS1 focus on the following themes:

Year 1

Autumn Term: Turrets and Tiaras
Spring Term: Fire and Ice
Summer Term:  Beside the Seaside

Year 2
Autumn Term: A Trip along the Thames
Spring Term: What a wonderful World!
Summer Term:  One Small Step

The transition from EYFS to KS1 is carefully planned and we ensure that there is a well developed transition procedure in place. This spans two terms: the Summer Term of Reception and the Autumn term of Year 1.

An engaging curriculum aims to provide stimulating learning opportunities for all our pupils and our KS1 teaching team ensure that each individual is supported to reach their full potential.
