It has been an exciting week! It began with ‘Moving Up Afternoon’ on Monday, when we welcomed the new staff joining the school in September and then gave some time for them to meet their new classes. The school was a-buzz with excitement and anticipation at all that lies ahead and it was lovely to wander round and see children settling, giggling, talking and listening and mixing in their new groups so well.
The afternoon and evenings gave the chance for Key Stage 2 parents to meet key staff and to hear of plans for the year ahead – it all added to the sense of that which is yet to come. It is an odd sensation as we pause for a day between school years when the temptation is to look ahead with the danger that we shall miss something of the magic of the moment. Sports Day in Early Years on site (no rain) and then at Kingsmeadow for the older children (Lots of rain!) gave such a moment when competition and fun inter-twined superbly until the weather curtailed events … but not before we could present the Dowson Cup in the great man’s honour – and how wonderful that he was there to hear the spontaneous applause which erupted, such is the esteem in which he is held by so many.
At the meeting of the years, it is good time to be thankful for all we have and be excited about all that is yet to be.
