Following revision week, the children have settled well into exams since Monday. It creates an odd atmosphere in a school which is normally a hive of activity and earnest discussion. It is, of course, a very important part of what we do here; this is not solely for the data is gives us but also because of the habits it helps instil within the children as they move through the school, and particularly as they enter the top two years. It is therefore as much about process as product as, in the final analysis in Year 6, the children will be assessed not by us but by those who hardly know them and against hundreds of others. Does our process work? The proof must lie with Year 6. Again this year, they have performed extremely well and have been offered places at KGS, Surbiton, Halliford, RGS, Hampton, City Of London, St George’s, St John’s, Epsom College, Reeds, Claremont, St Catherine’s, Whitgift, Tormead and Sir William Perkins. Their success lies in their sustained focus, their determination to produce ever more impressive work .. and the structures and experiences which allow them to feel ready and quietly confident when the big day comes.
Exam week works well.
