It’s so good to be back!

Posted on: 18 Sep 2020 by Weston Green School

Who would have imagined that the start to the academic year would be filled with the memories and current experiences of such an eventful and tragic time. Certainly, I think there are times we would like to put 2020 behind us in so many ways. However, September at Weston Green has made us all feel that we are snatching 2020 back into our own hands. It feels so good to be back, our children are happy, there is a real buzz for learning around the school and familiar routines are returning. Life at school feels pretty normal, a new normal.

It’s been incredible to see our youngest children in Kindergarten and Reception settle so quickly, already running into school each day with huge smiles and building wonderful relationships with their teachers. We have welcomed many new families across the school, and again, they feel like they have been with us for a long time. It is testament to our amazing and professional team that our community already feels ready to go for the academic year ahead.  Together we are very much looking to the future, striving forward and finding solutions rather than problems. It’s been great to have everyone back together. The rest of 2020 is ours to make and we are running with it!

From everyone enjoying a new special reading time set aside each day, to a house competition finding quotes from famous stories around the school and teachers sharing their current reads as well as children snuggling up in our lovely new library, you can probably guess that reading is one of our school priorities this year!  We invite you to hear more about the school priorities ahead on Tuesday 22nd September at 6.30pm, at our virtual Vision and Priorities event.

Within the first two weeks, the school has been alive with wonderful artwork, dance, drama, Spanish and French, choir, dressing up days, an air raid, a visiting workshop as well as Year 4 enjoying their residential days as planned (minus the sleepovers!). We are operating safely, but finding ways to make things happen. After all, these are valuable times for our children and we need to continue to make them count.

We are back together and life is better because we are together, and I can't wait to see what lies ahead.
