It’s that time again

Posted on: 18 May 2017 by Weston Green School

It’s that time again …

Exam season has come again. As I have said on several occasions, this time is important not only for the data is gives us (and particularly so, perhaps for the older children as we look towards 11+), but also because of the habits it helps instil within the children as they move through the school. Some might question the value of investing time in the process. I, however, am firmly convinced of its merits: in time (and, like growth in the natural world, such time does indeed need to be given), it leads children to a place of relative familiarity and thus to the blossoming of exam skills and practice; from there we can look to levels of success which are appropriately high. Whilst this is far from all that Weston Green provides for the children, it is a vital component as we build key skills in preparation for transfer to senior school via the 11+ external exam.

If one were to question the efficacy, then one might look to the Year 6 results for confirmation of those successful outcomes and spend a few moments reflecting on the journey that each child has made in the preceding years to secure the place in the senior school which is right for them; this is not a journey without its challenges but one which has again ended in multiple successes this year with places being accepted this year at Surbiton High, Boxhill, Halliford, St Teresa’s, St John’s, Hampton, Ewell Castle, City of London Freemans, Sir William Perkins and Tormead and offers coming in from other schools. Yes, exam week is important – may the children do justice to their understanding and continue to build towards the time when they, too, will perform well enough to earn their place at senior school.
