Life is Better Because we are Together

Posted on: 24 Sep 2021 by Weston Green School

As the days are shortening and there is an early morning nip in the air, we know that it is autumn, the academic year has begun and once again the school is filled with the chatter and sounds of children enjoying their school days. It really doesn't take long for the school community to feel that excited buzz and readiness for the experiences and opportunities that each day holds. This was palpable in that first week of term, it was wonderful to see such excited faces and smiles, children having grown so much and moving on to their new teachers and year groups. That first week was especially magical, normality had returned and it was wonderful also to welcome our parents back onto the school site, enjoy a glass of wine, catch up with each other or even begin to make new friends, for those parents who perhaps had not had that opportunity yet in school.

Since then, like many schools, we have had a taster of what may be a bumpy autumn term, an outbreak of Covid amongst staff and children which has led to a reintroduction of some temporary restrictions in school and a blended approach to both remote and face to face learning. It is extremely positive that cases have dropped significantly this week, but what this time has shown us is the incredible adaptability of our staff and children who have seamlessly switched to suit the circumstances. If this remains a pattern for a while, our amazing staff team will ensure that our children are making the most of their school life. Through this period, it is imperative that we strive to retain face to face teaching and access to school life for so many social, pastoral and academic reasons as well as to support the well being of all our children.

We know that in school is where children learn best. We are operating safely, but finding ways to make things happen. After all, these are valuable times for our children and we need to continue to make them count. As we start the autumn term, the school is back together and life is better because we are together, and I can't wait to see what lies ahead.
