Life-long Learning

It is always a delight to see children with their work, to celebrate their success and to quiz them about what they have been studying and learning. When a child does (for him or her) an exceptional piece of work, their teacher will, as often as is appropriate, want this recognised through a Headteacher's Award - which is publicly recognised and celebrated through the Key Stage Assembly and via a certificate which is put up along the corridor and sent home to parents for you to congratulate and encourage further.

As we do this, we not only consider the work itself, but we frequently talk about the learning characteristic which has principally generated that learning - this is our Learner Profile and much of what we do refers back to this; indeed, it is a foundation stone of our teaching and learning at Weston Green.


We believe that we are instilling within each child not just foundational knowledge but also the key ingredients for life-long learning. We need to be intentional about this, deliberately creating opportunities to build collaborative skills as well as independent thinking, creativity, reflection, resilience, and risk-taking if we are not only to enable active, vibrant learners to be at their best now, but also when they are 14, 18, 25 years of age and onwards. This is carefully crafted and publicly applauded so that the children understand how highly we regard these skills. It is another aspect of school life at Weston Green which helps to make us unique and it is something which we shall continue to prioritise in the months and years ahead.
