There is no doubt that things are not what they were. The stresses and strains that affected teenagers a few decades ago now seem to affect those children we might accurately categorize under the banner ‘pre-adolescent’. Rightly, we have become increasingly aware of the importance of what has come to be termed ‘mindfulness’. In this changing and seemingly more stressful world, how do we ensure children have the chance to be children and, if and when necessary or advisable, that they have the support they might need? Is there a gap in their fullness and peace of mind?
This week, we have been considering whether a school counsellor might help in ensuring we have all we need to support the wonderful young people in our care. At this stage, I am not sure if we shall take this further but it is tremendously uplifting to know we have a school which wants to give every support it can to close any gap in mindfulness and thus provide the vital sense of security which children need.
