As we head into half-term, it is good to reflect on the events of the calendar year so far – each New Year offers such hope and this term has witnessed those aspirations being translated into reality. The children have again responded superbly to the challenges they face, most of all, perhaps, Year 6 who have been earnest, mature and steadfast in their approach to the 11+ exams – a most stressful time for all. The results of their Entrance Exams are now filtering through and I am delighted to say that 8 scholarship offers have so far been made which include music for the first time, along with art and academic awards.
The hockey season has begun in great style and the Under 11 boys were at the National Hockey Finals at the Olympic Park this week.
In music, the House Music Competition is almost upon us and the Epsom Music Festival for Y2 is not far away. The production for KS1 is coming into view and the announcement that the older children will be doing ‘The Lion King’ has filled KS pupils with great enthusiasm for their end of year show.
On top of all that, the children’s work continues to blossom, with so many examples of impressive work now adorning the wall along the bottom corridor in the shape of Headteacher Awards. Yes, it has been another really fine half-term and a great start to 2017.
May you have a wonderful week ‘off’ with your talented children – they certainly deserve it.
