In the first newsletter of the year I wrote, “I cannot think of a better beginning to a school year than this one.” There were many reasons for that, and high on that list was the remarkable outcomes of the inspirational Year 3 and 4 residential trip, which yielded so many rich successes for each individual and yet also built a sense of togetherness which has been evident throughout the year.
This week, Years 5 and 6 have been away at Osmington Bay in Dorset and will have gained so much as a result. We actively seek to invest these young people with opportunities to grow those key skills and characteristics which we believe are central to enjoying and making the most of life: risk-taking, collaboration, creative thinking, independence, perseverance - a week ‘away’ offers new challenges and situations and, in so doing, allows those innate abilities to shine through more clearly and gives the chance to celebrate and congratulate, and further build confidence and resilience.
I hope the children will emerge from the week changed to some small degree, having developed even more obviously in to their truest and best selves and even more prepared for the exciting world in which we live.
