The spring term begins with the flurry and strains of the 11+ exams for Y6, moves into the routine and rhythm of term and then finishes with a flood of musical, dramatic and sporting activity. This last week or so has witnessed trips out, Open Morning, the Weston Green u11 girls hockey tournament and the ISA mixed hockey at Crystal Palace, a Music Festival for Y2, the Y2 football festival and a concert! Yet there is still more to come: the House hockey, the swimming gala, the KS1 performance and, of course, the Easter Egg Hunt! It is all part of the magic and value of our school, enabling the children can take on so much, doing it all in such accomplished fashion and deriving such obvious benefit from it.
To gain all we should from all this activity requires stamina, certainly, but in my experience at Weston Green, the fuel that drives the activity is enthusiasm; this is what children here do – they do indeed ‘learn with joyful enthusiasm’.
Whilst it is often hard to measure the impact of all we do, one such indicator may well be the success achieved at the top of the school – in drama, music, sport, art, but above all in their academic accomplishments. It is right, now that all results are in, to celebrate with Y6 their individual and collective successes as all the children have now secured places at senior schools of choice, with 8 scholarship offers between the 16 children. Well done to them – it is testimony to and due reward for their wonderful efforts. With two weeks to go, it has been another remarkable term.
