Anyone who knows me reasonably well will tell you that I am a man who eats to live, rather than one who lives to eat. However, the evening I spent in a wonderful hotel restaurant in Rheims in France will live long in the memory as the variety of taste that it offered opened up new horizons.
We want to offer a similarly rich educational diet to the children here on a daily basis so that they grow up with the staple ‘foods’ of the core subjects, augmented and supplemented by a variety of ‘specials’. If we cast our eye over the calendar, we see visits to theatres, museums, the River Thames and Jazz concerts; we see the children having opportunity to lead the school in assembly, to develop their research skills by beginning their VE Day project, to engage in the wonderful ’Bake Off’ (initiated by the School Council) and to do this with such creativity and imagination. These are just a few examples of the daily, weekly and termly diet so far. This week we have had the creative writing workshop and lectures and ahead lie Shakespeare performances, Geography and History workshops, World Book day, concerts …
A rich diet indeed through which the children experience and enjoy that glorious variety which enables them to grow holistically.
I hope that many of you will have taken the chance this Thursday to see something of that richness of educational experience in the Open Morning for present parents. It was a pleasure to welcome you into the school and the children adored sharing this ‘diet’ with you.
