The debate over the wearing of poppies on international team shirts will not have escaped your notice. At Weston Green, we certainly believe it is right to mark this significant day and so today at 11am on the 11th day of the 11thmonth we held our Act of Remembrance, as we always do. It is a day which carries both immense sadness and deep thankfulness. Whilst much of the significance may escape many of the children at this age, there is no doubt in my mind that doing so builds that sense of importance and increased awareness as each year passes. The children approach the time of Remembrance with a quiet respect and a determination to remain still and silent long enough to mark the occasion as a genuine time to think and reflect. May it ever be thus.
Forged on the sacrifice made by so many in a time which seems somewhat alien to us, perhaps, we can continue to enjoy the freedoms which we are in danger of being taken for granted, were it not for such moments as took place today. It is a humbling experience to come to understand what was endured and suffered; it is as joyous to see the freedom which was bought at such a cost being so well explored day by day by the children as they study, experiment, forge friendships and grow in so many ways.
As you read this edition of the newsletter, I hope you will get a sense of the energy, commitment and joy which I feel each day, working alongside such amazing staff and such wonderful children. I would like to think that those who gave so much for us will continue to smile when watching from on high the way in which Weston Green children make the most of each day given.
