A Look at Art Last Term

Last term, our creative children had been busy learning about artists, designers and craftspeople and practising their super skills in Art and Design. With a focus on why we create and explore materials and media, we have sparked an interest in the children to find out more about real craftspeople and designers and what they do.

Year 6  made a fantastic effort learning how to use two point perspective, like architects, to create a 3D high street with a tube station and their choice of “essential” shops (with many children adding a n essential Game Station, of course).

Year 5 made huge strides in their textiles project in which many pupils learnt how to sew for the first time! Sewing is not just for loose buttons, as Year 5 now know. They can embellish clothing and fabrics in our everyday life to make them exciting, unique and long-lasting. Great running stitches so far, Year 5.

Years 3 and 4 have worked so hard to explore their Egyptians and Vikings art topics last term. Year 3 finished their Egyptian masks using papier-mâché, cardboard, acrylic paint and permanent markers, while Year 4 used mixed media a watercolour, oil pastel, charcoal printing (a firm favourite), pencil, pen and paint - to create a fleet of longships to terrify and inspire us all.

Years 1 and 2 practised their line and colour skills using a variety of materials and were especially keen to get a little (a lot) messy in order to explore the media on offer! Year 2 were particularly good at blending with oil pastels and are excited to get started on mixed media pieces of work this term.

Last but not least, The Art Pod, our ‘school artists in residence’, have worked on their painting skills and created absolutely beautiful acrylic paintings on paper and on canvas. Their creative confidence is soaring and these Year 6 pupils can't wait to share their skills with our Year 5 Art Pod recruits this year.
