All About Me Week: Me and My Amazing Brain

Last week at Weston Green, we celebrated ‘All About Me Week’ by focusing on our amazing brains. Sometimes we forget just how incredible our brains are. We take it for granted that we will be able to do all the things we find so easy, like breathing and walking. We put more and more pressure on ourselves to achieve, without giving ourselves the time to reflect on all the amazing things around us and on what we’ve accomplished.

So last week, we took a step back to appreciate our bodies and our brains. We learnt that, just like the muscles in our bodies, we need to exercise the parts of our brain, to keep them working hard. We started each morning with a ‘Wake and Shake’ run by our fabulous Miss Gibson. This was followed by a few minutes of calm, where we used some breathing techniques to steady our minds. After that we thought about things for which we were grateful. Some wonderful answers were shared in our Friday assembly: I am grateful for my friends, my family, my health, nature, colour and sunshine. It has been wonderful to see the children adopting these breathing techniques in their lessons and in the playground as a way to control their emotions. Keep calm and carry on!
