Back to school for parents

Back to school for parents

Last Thursday evening, parents of children in Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 had the opportunity to return to school to participate in a range of maths information sessions, each tailored to the needs of children in the different Key Stages.

The presentations given by the various members of staff explained why and how we teach maths, how we assess it, and most importantly what parents can do to support their child at home. In addition to the lovely displays of resources which accompanied the presentations (particularly in Early Years, where the hall was full of wonderful displays of hands-on learning through play), parents were directed to resources which can be found on the school website, including the schools Written Calculation Policy, which takes the parents through the different strategies used at different points of their child's mathematical development.

Parents found the evening highly informative; one Year 2 parent commented: "I just wanted to say a big thank you for yesterday. I confess I came along not convinced that I would take too much away with me but I feel like I left with some really practical and valuable advice as to how to support my daughter at home with her maths!".
