Now, more than ever, children’s mental health is at the forefront of our thoughts as a school. The pupils at Weston Green have shown remarkable resilience and adaptability through these periods of remote learning and are eager to push themselves to succeed. We want to ensure they approach their learning in a balanced way though and are taking time for themselves, away from a screen - to pursue their passions, their interests or just relax and unwind.
The children’s mental health charity, Place2Be, launched the first ever Children’s Mental Health Week in 2015 to shine a spotlight on the importance of children and young people’s mental health. The theme this year was ‘Express Yourself’ and it led to some wonderful activities for the children last week.
On Monday we ‘Dressed to Express’; wearing clothes that represented our personal interests and passions. On Tuesday the whole school took some time out for some mindfulness and meditation. Wednesday was a chance to express yourself through your favourite colour and Thursday was a school wide yoga session. Throughout the week, the children completed a variety of challenges or self chosen activities, to express themselves and to reflect upon their own wellbeing. Dedicated lessons gave the children the opportunity to discuss the importance of mental health in class and we rounded off the week with an assembly celebrating all they had done across the week.
Please do remember that if there is anything we can do as a school to support you and your child, then we are here for you. The pupils at Weston Green remain an absolute credit to all of you and we could not be more proud of them.
