Year 1 are able to develop all of their Learner Profile skills when they visit Forest School each week.
The children carry out a range of activities which they would not get the chance to do in the classroom environment. They become 'Squirrels' as they take risks and explore the environment with their friends. Last week they were climbing trees and learning how to balance and navigate themselves from branch to branch, all valuable skills when developing gross motor skills at this crucial stage in their growth.
They have worked as a team to design and make a hedgehog house for our mascot ‘Hedgie’. This gave the children the opportunity to negotiate and explain their ideas to one another. Teaching resilience for challenging tasks is also something that we nurture at Forest School, being 'Woodpeckers' and not giving up, even if it takes longer than expected or is proving difficult - the children problem solve and keep going until the task is complete.
Well done, Year 1.
