Last week the school population temporarily grew by a further 17 pupils as Year 6 brought in their Flour Babies.
Inspired by Anne Fine's novel Flour Babies, the topic gives the children the opportunity to reflect on what it might be like to be responsible for another person, and one who is wholly dependent on them. Having made their babies at home, they had to carry them around with them throughout the day, only leaving them if they had found a suitably reliable baby sitter.
Throughout the week, Year 6 kept a diary of the project, and it quickly became apparent that as much as they had been looking forward to the project, the novelty of carrying around a 1.5kg baby who requires constant attention was quickly wearing off! Babies were weighed at the beginning and end of the week to see how well they had been cared for, and on Friday they were all outside in the sunshine to share in a solstice picnic.
