Last Friday the school gathered to celebrate the successes of its pupils, particularly those of Year 6 who justly took home many of the prizes. Mr Harrison's speech used the metaphor of a garden, with the pupils the flowers and the teachers the gardeners, and speech day certainly saw the garden in full bloom.
Mr Shakleton, who was a friend and ex-colleague of Mr Harrison's, presented the prizes; certificates were given to all those completeing Key Stage 1; academic and progress prizes were awarded in every class in Key Stages 1 and 2, and then specialist prizes were awarded to many others - particularly those in Year 6.
It was a joyous occasion, with huge smiles from the recipients and much pride in the eyes and smiles of parents in the audience. Mr Shakleton's speech - a cleverly told story featuring many of the staff of Weston Green - reminded all present that you get out of life what you put into it.
After the formal proceedings, and lots of suitably proud photos of pupils clutching their books, cups and shields, the parents and children returned to school for celebratory refreshments.
