On Thursday 12th March, Weston Green School held its annual House Music Competition. This is a fun day dedicated to whole-house music-making as well as a celebration of the achievements of our individual vocal and instrumental finalists.
Staff and students joined together in their houses for morning rehearsals. Song titles were pulled out of a hat by house captains and then it was up to each house to think of ways to make their song renditions stand out.
Arbrook sang ‘A Million Dreams’ from ‘The Greatest Showman’, Ditton performed ‘Sing’ by Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber, Fairmile had Coldplay’s Viva La Vida and Littleworth had ‘I Am The Earth’, written by Glynn Lehmann for the International Year of Planet Earth.
These whole-house extravaganzas were interspersed by charming solos from Weston Green School’s instrumental and vocal finalists and the whole competition was topped and tailed by the choirs. KS1 Choir started the afternoon off with a Jazzy ‘Spiderman’ number and KS2 Choir finished the event off with ‘The Rhythm of Life’ from Sweet Charity.
We are very grateful to our adjudicator - Mr David Oldfield, former Head of Music at St. George’s College Junior School. Mr David Oldfield wrapped up the whole event by presenting Edward Cassidy with the Smit Cup and Littleworth with the House Singing Trophy.
