One of the focus areas of our School Progress Plan is curriculum innovation - ensuring that an innovative curriculum enriches learning and prepares children thoroughly for the 11+ and beyond.
As part of this, we have recently introduced a "Mastery" style approach to maths, across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. This will enable all children to deepen their understanding, confidence and competence in maths.
The Mastery approach lets children learn in the Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract (CPA). This allows pupils to use physical resources, pictorial representations and abstract concepts to help build and deepen their understanding of maths. The children have opportunities to work on a variety of reasoning style maths questions as well as working through problem-solving activities.
