Meet our new Chef

Weston Green are delighted to welcome Matt, our new School Chef.

Read our Q&A with Matt:

What is your favourite food and why?
Simple food - roast dinners, steak and chips - but I do love foie gras in a freshly baked croissant and takeway Thai cuisine.

How do you find the children at Weston Green?
Very polite and helpful.

Where else have you cooked? Have you only cooked in schools?
I have cooked in lots of different places, from Harrods to France, and in two previous schools.

How did you get into cooking for children?
I was working at Kew Gardens and was offered a job at a school, by a customer.

What was the first thing you ever cooked?
Bread pudding when I was a small boy, with my grandma.

Who inspires you?
My family and as for chefs, Marco Pierre White.

Where did you work before joining Weston Green?
Royal Ballet School.

What fact about cooking school dinners might surprise us?
We use 15kg of potatoes per week, to feed the school and I use at least 15 loaves of bread, per week.

Have you a special Christmas recipe or tip that you could share?
When you cook your turkey at home on Christmas day, pierce the turkey breast and rub with butter. Add bacon on top for a really succulent bit of turkey.
