We look forward to welcoming our new Year 1 Class Teacher, Miss Katja Syrad, to Weston Green in September.
Read our Q&A with Miss Syrad, below:
What attracted you to the role at Weston Green?
I was lucky enough to meet some of the staff and pupils from Weston Green through joint PE lessons with my current school and I was struck by the enthusiasm with which both the staff and pupils spoke about their school. The bond between the staff and children was immediately evident too, and I thought it seemed a great dynamic to be part of.
What skills and experience can you bring to Weston Green?
I have worked with a range of pupils from one to one with children who have special needs, to a class of 30. I enjoy enabling children to learn without them even realising they are working hard, through engaging activities and group work.
Why did you decide to become a teacher?
I first started teaching my brother, who has severe learning disabilities, and took pride and pleasure in seeing the progress he made. I therefore thought it would be a rewarding career that would always challenge and inspire me.
What is the best thing about teaching?
What I enjoy the most in teaching is the feeling of when a child believes they can’t do something, and then after a practical activity or a particular method of teaching, they have a light bulb moment and they announce with glee, “I can do it!”
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy running, swimming and anything sports related. At the moment, however, I have just moved house, so it is mainly painting and decorating.
