Pupils at Weston Green have been sharing their artistic skills during a week of activities dedicated to creativity.
As part of a special Art Week, pupils of all ages enjoyed exploring new skills in a series of art workshops, culminating in an exhibition in the Art Studio for parents and pupils, at the end of the week.
With much enthusiasm, pupils in Years 1 to 6 had the chance to experiment with new techniques, materials and methods in workshops led by artist Jules Degg, Head of Art at St Christopher’s School. Activities included embossing, felting and painting in watercolour, acrylic paint and chalk pastels.
Bringing together Art, Science and Literacy, pupils also spent time discussing themes and interpreting the story behind "An Experiment on a Bird in the Air Pump", a painting by Joseph Wright of Derby, the National Gallery's chosen painting for the Take One Picture art competition, open to schools nationally. Pupils worked together to think about and connect with the painting, before completing creative projects chosen themselves.
Head of Art, Mrs Natalia Willis, said: “Art Week has been a wonderful celebration of the talents of our pupils, as well as providing many opportunities for cross-curricular learning and developing new techniques and skills. Ending our Art Week with an exhibition of the children’s best work so far this year, has instilled a real sense of pride and accomplishment among pupils, as well as leaving staff and parents in awe of the fantastic effort continually put in to the creative and expressive opportunities offered at Weston Green.”
