Weston Green Remembers

The school community came together on Friday 9th November for our remembrance assembly, led by Mrs Evans. The Key Stage 2 choir performed a beautiful song, "In Flanders Field". The children’s voices made the words of John McCrae’s poem seem especially poignant and the choir was joined by all of Key Stage 2 to sing "Remember".

Each year group from Kindergarten upwards had collaborated to decorate a poppy wreath. While making these, the classes were able to reflect on why poppies are used as a symbol of remembrance. The finished wreaths were displayed in the hall and made a beautiful display.

The glass doors at the back of the hall were also decorated with poppies, painted by some of our Year 6 Art Scholars working with Reception pupils.

The school community came together again at 11.00am for the two-minute silence which was immaculately observed by all the children from Year 1 upwards and was a fitting way to round off the children’s learning in this important year: the centenary of the end of World War One.
